PHP Developer with HTML / CSS
We’re currently looking for an enthusiastic and creative PHP developer to join our team. Our ideal candidate will be passionate about the world of development and a keen builder of innovative, thought provoking websites, web applications and mobile sites.
They will have a thorough understanding of Object Orientation, a good knowledge of PHP, HTML/CSS and be keen to learn other software languages. This would include Objective C for iOS development or Java for Google Android application for example. They would also understand how the latest innovations such as HTML5 and CSS3 apply to real-life projects in a world of cross-platform consumption.

The Role
This is a permanent role for a PHP developer. You must have experience developing content managed websites and web applications using PHP5, HTML4 and CSS2 in an MVC style environment, with exposure to CVS, JavaScript and database administration such as MySQL / SQL server.
You should have also at least looked into deployment on other platforms such as mobile-optimised sites, even if you haven't created a site yourself. You have a keen interest in developing experience in a mobile applications including the Apple platforms - we will support this with internal resources and training.
You must be hard working and creative, a strong team player with a desire to learn new skills. You should enjoy keeping up to date with new technologies and be able to understand their use in the real world for clients that work in different sectors. You must be a good communicator in written and spoken English, comfortable talking to clients when required.

Required skills
- Thorough understanding of Object Orientated programming, MVC structure, algorithms and design patterns
- 3+ year experience of best practice development, including PHP / MySQL, HTML / CSS
- Knowledge of JavaScript frameworks such as Yahoo’s YUI or equivalent
- Understanding of security and documentation best practice for development projects
- Understanding of version control in a multi-project environment
- Creative and hardworking with an eye for details
- Ability to self manage and understand objectives from a clients point of view
- Excellent verbal / written communication skills
Desirable skills:
- HTML 5/ CSS3 experience
- Mobile development experience on any platform
- Understanding of graphics editors such as Adobe Photoshop, GIMP or equivalent
- Experience of using RESTful web services, XML and API integration
- Experience of cross-platform rollouts
Salary and benefits
£20,000 - £24,000, depending on experience.

Apps for iPad, iPhone, Blackberry and Android with digital content
Unless the creativity in your content to create a compelling version of your book title as an app. How can you make it just more than a point and click? How can users get involved? Can you include video and images? How about a Google map showing key locations?

Subscription services for iPad / iPhone magazines and books
Create iBook versions of your popular titles as well as creating apps for the large screen iPad to hold your book or magazine. This can either use the Apple in-app payment system or be done through an external website, to retain more of the revenue.

Digital book formats including iBook, Kindle, Nook, ePub and MOBI
Create ePub versions of your existing popular titles to then be released on to multiple formats. Kindle benefits from having mobile and desktop readers, although Nook (Barnes and Noble) is selling better in the US.
